Vibrant Winter Wedding at the River House | St. Augustine, FL

Documenting weddings is always an emotional task, but wow was this day just FULL of sentimental, heartfelt moments that brought tears to my eyes! Austin and Jesselyn tied the knot with the most beautiful winter wedding at the River House, a beautiful venue in downtown St. Augustine, Florida. They were surrounded by friends and family who brought so much love and support to the celebration, as well as stunning views of the Matanzas River on a sunny Florida day. Blue skies, sunshine, and all the people you love most. . . what more could you ask for on your special day?

Austin & Jesselyn’s River House Wedding

A highly-anticipated celebration

Fun fact, Austin and Jesselyn’s relationship goes way back: they actually met when they were in high school! Their paths didn’t cross in a romantic way, though, until shortly after they graduated high school and were playing “Spin the bottle” at a party they were both at—how freaking cute is that? It honestly feels like the kind of story you’d watch in a cheesy romantic comedy, where the bottle just so happens to land on a person you’re unknowingly about to spend the rest of your life with. That night, everything changed, and now here they were, years and years later, committing their hearts to each other on a sunny day in Florida in front of all their friends and family. Cue the tears!

A vibrant & colorful winter wedding theme

Austin and Jesselyn were originally planning for a wedding in the spring, but after visiting their venue (the River House) in December and falling in love with the way it looked all decorated for Christmas, they decided to ditch those plans and opt for a winter wedding instead. Fortunately, Florida is just as beautiful in the winter as it is in the spring, and the added touch of those holiday decorations around the already-romantic venue was just magical!

Located right on the Matanzas River, the River House is a five-star venue that offers the most stunning indoor and outdoor spaces for couples looking to get married in St. Augustine. The venue can accommodate up to 240 of your loved ones, whether you want to tie the knot in the elegant grand ballroom, on the River House Terrace overlooking the water (which is where Austin and Jesselyn had their ceremony!), or in the charming Conservatory. Wedding packages at the River House range from $7,000-$11,000 for ceremonies and receptions, but you can inquire with them to get a custom quote if you’re just as in love with the property as I am!

Now I am ALSO in love with how floral-focused their details and decor were, including all kinds of whimsical floral designs, vining greenery, and vibrant colors that popped against the blue skies & neutral tones around the venue. The orange tones they chose to feature were to DIE for, and even their invitations were sooo dreamy, with elegant white font against a dark black background, next to an intricate floral design.

An emotional day filled with heartfelt moments

This day was bursting with emotions from the very first moment I arrived to photograph the couple getting ready alongside their family and friends. These are probably some of my most favorite moments of a wedding day—and are usually underrated, being that they’re not the “big,” official moments that you show up for. But they are JUST as special, surrounded by your closest loved ones who are helping you get ready for the occasion that you’ve been dreaming about for months and months now. Austin and Jesselyn’s wedding parties were the sweetest, it was a blast taking group photos outside the venue before the two of them met for their first look!

Romantic wedding portraits all over the River House

I wish you could have experienced the happiness on Austin and Jesselyn’s faces when they saw each other for the first time in their wedding attire. . . but these photos will have to do. It was pure emotion, overwhelm, gratitude, and joy as they took each other in, sharing lots of hugs, kisses, and endless smiles. We wandered around the venue for couples portraits before it was time for their ceremony, taking advantage of all the stunning spots that the River House has to offer (my favorites being the stairs leading up to those gorgeous windows, and the dock that takes you out over the water!). I always recommend taking some extra time for portraits before your ceremony, if you’re doing a first look, so that you can get plenty of photos together just in case you run out of time later in the day.
